Streaming with External Cameras
You need to be a Team Admin or Team Reporter to use this feature.
Streaming with External Camera Equipment
You can plan a livestream as soon as the match is confirmed. This lets followers know they will be able to watch it.
For a more professional setup, you can use any external streaming software or camera system. Add your own overlays, logos, and scoreboard for a customized match experience. NorCal handles scheduling, stream visibility, and viewer updates — while you manage the production side.
Getting started
Navigate to the game page in the App. Your team's games can be found in the game calendar at the top right of the app's home page, in your home feed, and you can also find the game page via your team's or league's page.
1. Tap the + Button
Opens the reporting options menu from the game page.
2. Tap "Plan Livestream"
Opens the livestream setup screen.
3. Select External Equipment
Creates a scheduled livestream card that appears at the top of the game feed and shows the countdown to kickoff.
4. Overlay Settings
Configure how the overlay behaves.
- If your stream provides its own scoreboard, turn this setting on to hide the NorCal scoreboard
- Enter the delay or latency specified by your streaming encoder
5. Tap "Next" to Continue
Moves you forward to the external broadcast setup.
6. External Broadcast Options Page
This page lets you manage your broadcast options.
- Access the Stream Settings page to find your stream URL and key
- Preview the stream before going live
- Set when the stream becomes publicly available before kickoff
- Start livestreaming when an incoming stream is detected
7. Tap the Stream Settings Button
Opens the Stream Settings page.
8. Stream Settings Page
Manage the core streaming configuration.
- View, copy, and share your stream URL and stream key
- Manage overlay settings and delay
- Check technical stream details
9. Tap the Back Arrow
Returns to the External Broadcast Options page.
10. Tap the Preview Button
Opens the Preview Livestream page.
11. Preview Livestream Page
Preview your stream once an incoming feed is active. If no stream is available yet, a black screen will appear.
12. Tap the Back Arrow
Returns to the External Broadcast Options page.
13. Tap the "Shown to Viewers" Button
Opens the Publish Time page.
14. Publish Time Page
Set when the stream becomes publicly available.
- Adjust the visibility from 0 to 30 minutes before kickoff
- If you start streaming within 10 minutes of kickoff, the stream becomes publicly available immediately
15. Tap the Back Arrow
Returns to the External Broadcast Options page.
16. Tap the Back Arrow Again
Returns to the match feed in NorCal.
17. View the Planned Livestream Card
The card now appears at the top of the game feed and shows the countdown to the match.
On game day
18. Navigate to the Match Page
On game day, open the match page in NorCal.
19. Tap Admin: Handle and Start Livestream
Opens the livestream management screen.
20. Open Stream Settings
Tap to access and copy your stream key and stream name.
21. Copy the Stream URL and Key
Tap to copy your stream URL and stream key to the clipboard.
22. Check Overlay Settings
Confirm these match your encoder settings.
- If your stream includes its own scoreboard, enable the setting to hide the NorCal scoreboard
- Set the delay or latency to match your encoder
23. Open Your External Camera Software
Enter the Stream URL and Stream Key into your external camera equipment and start the livestreaming function.
24. Switch back into NorCal
You'll be back on the Stream Settings page.
25. Tap the Back Arrow
Return to the External Broadcast Options page.
26. Check the Preview
It's a good idea to check the preview at this point and make sure everything looks correct before the stream becomes publicly available.
27. Tap the Back Arrow Again
Return to the External Broadcast Options page.
28. Tap the Ready to Start Button to go live
You can:
- Wait for the scheduled start time, or
- Send the stream live immediately by pressing the red button
29. When the Match Ends
After the final whistle:
- Wait about 1 minute before stopping the stream in your external camera app.
- The stream ends automatically when the camera stops transmitting.
- No need to finish anything in NorCal — the replay is instantly available.
