Creating an Account
Verifying your child's account
You need your own NorCal account to do this. It takes about a minute and only has to be done once per child.
Open the link
Your child has started creating an account in NorCal and entered your email address. Because they are under 13, the account cannot be used until you have verified it. You have been sent an email with a link to do that.
- On your phone
If you have the app installed, the link opens the verification flow inside it. - On a computer
The link opens the same flow in your browser. Both routes lead to the same three steps and it does not matter which one you use.
Your own account
The first screen tells you which child is asking and lists the three things you are about to do. A step already ticked off is one you have completed — signing in counts as the first step.
Verify the child from your own account, not from theirs. If you do not have an account yet, create one with your own name and birth year first — entering the child's details on your account is the most common mistake here, and it is awkward to undo.
1. Sign in or create your account
If you already have an account, sign in with your own email address. If not, create one the same way your child did: enter your email, confirm the code, and fill in your own details.
2. Choose "Get started"
This begins the verification. The name shown is the child who entered your email address — if you do not recognise it, stop here and do not continue.
Check the details
You are then shown the details your child entered, so you can correct them before the account goes live. Anything with a padlock is set elsewhere and cannot be changed here.
3. Check and correct the details
Check the name and birth year in particular — the birth year decides which age groups the child can be registered in. A field with a padlock cannot be changed here: the email address is what the child signs in with, and a locked name comes from your club's registration system, where a team admin can change it.
If this is not your child
Choose "This is not my child" to reject the request. The child is not verified and nothing is connected to your account. Use this if you do not recognise the name, or if the email address was entered by mistake. In the app the option sits below the details form; on the web it sits under "Get started" on the first screen.
Accept the terms
The last step is the terms that apply to accounts for children under 13. You accept them on your child's behalf, so read them before signing.
4. Read the terms
You are shown what the account holds and how the child's data is handled. Each section can be opened in full, and where a PDF is provided you can download it.
5. Sign on your child's behalf
Signing completes the verification. The child's account becomes usable immediately and you are connected as their guardian.
The account is ready
That's it — the account is verified and your child is told it is ready.
6. Confirm and finish
Your child is sent an email telling them the account has been verified, with a link to open the app and start using it. There is nothing else for you to do.
What you can do afterwards
Being a guardian gives you access to your child's profile and privacy settings from your own account. You can change what is shown about them, or remove the account, at any time.
If your child has trouble signing in afterwards, the most likely cause is that they are using a different email address from the one the account was created with.
